About Us
Our History:
In 2018 owner Kenny Lambert was homeless addicted to drugs and alcohol. Inspired by the birth of his daughter Amelia he reconnected with God and made the decision to go to treatment and get sober.
The company was founded in 2020 starting with online sales, small giveaways and hand deliveries of orders from Kenny and his team.
In October of 2020 the renovations began on the store which was truly a community effort. Local artists, businesses, friends and family all came together to help create the vision that has now become The Just A Dad From Akron Store.
The storefront opened on March 6, 2021 at 937 Kenmore Blvd in Akron. The store provides not only clothing, but a safe place for kids and adults in the community to visit, share hopes & dreams, and be inspired.
In December of 2021 the company started its recovery outreach hosting weekly sober support meetings every Friday at 8:00 p.m.
In October 2022 the premiere of "The Movement" documentary was held at the Akron Civic Theater. This film showcased the growth of the company over the last 2 years, highlighted God's work within our community, and shared stories of empowerment from our peers.
In 2023, our founder Kenny Lambert achieved a major milestone by winning an Emmy Award for "The Movement" documentary, marking a moment of excellence, creativity, and purpose that continues to shape the brand’s vision.
The momentum continued in November 2024 when Kenny Lambert spoke at a TED Talk event, using his voice to inspire, challenge, and impact audiences worldwide.
In 2025, our founder Kenny Lambert — just a dad from Akron — was honored with a City Proclamation Award, recognizing his impact, leadership, and dedication to the community.
What started as a T-shirt brand has transformed into something so much bigger.
